How the "you look like" ethnicity guess works
Curious what ethnicity or race you look like? This AI compares your face with
faces from 14 world regions, from Sub-Saharan Africa and the Horn of Africa to Central Asia,
the Americas and the Pacific, and shows a percentage for each. It starts from a CLIP model
trained on the balanced FairFace dataset and keeps learning from people who share their DNA
results or family background.
It's just for fun. A photo shows appearance, not DNA, so it can't tell your
ancestry, nationality or heritage, and mixed or less common looks are often
labelled wrong. For real ancestry results you need a DNA test.
Frequently asked questions
Is FaceAI free?
Yes. You can guess your age, check gender and see what ethnicity you look like for free, as many times as you want. There's no sign-up, no login and no app to install: it runs in your web browser.
How accurate is the AI age guess?
On clear, well-lit, front-facing photos it is usually within a few years of your real age. Filters, make-up, low light, sunglasses or unusual angles can make it much less accurate.
Can AI tell my race or ethnicity?
No. It can only say which world regions your face looks similar to, based on faces it was trained on. Appearance doesn't determine ancestry, ethnicity or nationality, so treat the percentages as a bit of fun.
Why does the AI think I look older or younger than I am?
Age models learn from typical faces. Skin texture, facial hair, glasses, hairstyle, lighting and image quality all shift the estimate. Try a sharp photo taken in daylight, facing the camera, with no filter.
Do I need to sign up or download an app?
No. There's no account, email or app needed. Open the page, upload a photo or take a selfie, and you get your results right away.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Open the site in your phone's browser and tap Camera to take a selfie, or Choose File to pick a photo from your gallery.
What if there is more than one person in the photo?
FaceAI needs a photo of just one person. If it finds more than one face, it asks you to use another photo or crop this one so only one person is in it.
